PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS
~ Created original series "Narrow Escapes," Discovery Channel's million dollar
prime-time foray into real escape footage. Sensitive to critical scrutiny, the
network's brand image was on the line. The series needed to keep the drama in
these real rescues without seeming exploitative. We featured the science behind
the rescues while keeping the drama intact. Oprah Winfrey, one of the nation's
foremost opinion leaders, praised the series as quality television, dedicating
an entire episode of her program to "Narrow Escapes."
~ Pioneered Discovery Communication's internal original production unit. Created
the company's first self-produced program with the 2002 two-hour special "Best
Place To Watch A Volcano" for The Travel Channel. Saved the company over $40,000
and set the precedent to save millions by replicating the model.
~ Redefined management of all Discovery Channel reversioning. Identified
problems with programming, put together teams to accomplish the changes, set the
budgets, tracked progress, obtained approvals and got formerly troubled programs
successfully on the air.
~ Wrote and produced original script for Travel Channel's "Best Place To Brave
The Wild Sea." The program set a Nielson ratings record for the network that
stood for over two years.
~ Represented TLC in Amsterdam as Executive Producer for the aviation series "SkyBound."
Reworked the series for an American audience, brought the series back under
budget and managed the workload so the Dutch production company could complete
an on-time delivery.
~ Rewrote the script and produced the narration for TLC's breakthrough series
"Survival In The Sky," helping the network garner it's highest rated prime-time
series to date.
~ Recipient of Wildscreen Panda Award as Supervising Producer for Discovery
Channel's "Polar Bear: Shadows On The Ice." Referred to as 'The Green Oscars,'
Wildscreen's Panda Awards are recognized worldwide as the highest accolade in
natural history programming.
~ Developed, wrote and produced a comprehensive video training program seen by
all incoming employees to The White House when The National Security Agency
needed a way to communicate new security concerns to While House staffers.
~ Principle videographer on Episode One of Emmy winning "What If I'm Pregnant?"
series.
